About Pipeline
In 2016, while driving by Hawaiʻi’s North Shore on Memorial Day weekend, Gayla Young found inspiration for her new business as she passed the iconic Banzai Pipeline. As a native Hawaiian, she knew the name Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery perfectly captured her cultural roots and vision for the business.
Banzai Pipeline, often simply referred to as "Pipeline," is one of the most famous surf spots in the world, located on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. Its name comes from the powerful waves that roll into the reef and create spectacular tubes. Known for its challenging conditions and beautiful, hollow waves.
Beyond just a surf spot, Pipeline has significant cultural importance in Hawaii. It represents the spirit of the ocean and surfing culture, serving as a symbol of the bond between the islands and the ocean. The local community has a deep connection to the water, and Pipeline has played a role in the preservation of Hawaiian surfing traditions
Our malasada journey began in 2015 when Gayla Young set out to create a bakery dedicated to local island treats, with malasadas taking center stage. After a year of testing and perfecting over 100 recipes, she opened Pipeline Bakeshop & Creamery in Kaimuki on the island of ʻOahu, quickly earning rave reviews from both locals and visitors. While the bakeshop is also known for its signature Cake Bomb®, homemade ice cream, and pastries, the Pipeline malasada remains the most popular and beloved item.
We began shipping our malasadas nationwide in 2019 before COVID-19 and recently began International shipping to Canada in 2024.
After 8 successful years in Hawaiʻi, Gayla and her team are bringing their best-selling item, the Pipeline Malasada, to Las Vegas, Nevada—opening the city’s very first dedicated malasada shop.
